Sex offenders are everywhere. Some are violent and very dangerous. Every State has various laws about what they will permit to be listed in their registeries. Some will give you pictures and addresses and others will only tell you how many are in each County. There are also laws regarding what you can do with the information provided. Please take measures to keep your kids safe and teach them how to say NO and to run away. Don't let kids play unsupervised in parks and playgrounds. Be diligant about walking to and from school. Last week some girls walking home from school were subjected to a sex offender exposing himself in our neighborhood. He did not live in the neighborhood but drove over here for just that purpose. This could have easily turned into an abduction and these girls were 4th and 5th grade, normally what you would consider a safe age to walk home alone. Camera phones have also become a weapon for sex offenders. At another local elementary school last week an offender was using his phone to take pictures of girls on the front lawn. Luckily both of these offenders have been caught and are in jail. Sex offenders are required to register but many do not. Consider how many sex offenders were in New Orleans and are now spread out all over the country. How many have registered in their new areas? We just don't know. You should check the list often to see if anyone has moved into your neighborhood.
